Tammy Duckworth

Tammy Duckworth is an American politician and retired U.S. Army National Guard lieutenant colonel serving as the junior United States Senator from Illinois since 2017. She is a member of the Democratic Party.
She is an Iraq War veteran who lost both of her legs when her helicopter was shot down by an Iraqi insurgent RPG in 2004, for which she was awarded two Purple Hearts.
Duckworth is notable as the first Thai American woman elected to Congress, the first woman born in Thailand to serve in Congress, and one of the first female disabled U.S. Senators.
Recently, she has been vocal in Senate hearings, clashing with Trump administration officials like Secretary of State Marco Rubio over Venezuela policy and criticizing Vice President JD Vance for ableist remarks.
