Harris County is the most populous county in the U.S. state of Texas and the third-most populous in the United States, located in the southeastern part of the state.
Its county seat is Houston, the fourth-most populous city in the United States, and it forms a core part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area.
Founded on December 22, 1836, and named after early settler John Richardson Harris, the county has a 2025 estimated population of 5,045,026.
