The first king of Norway after the 1905 dissolution of the union with Sweden, reigning from 1905 until his death in 1957.
A symbol of Norwegian resistance and national unity during the Nazi occupation of Norway in World War II, famously refusing to abdicate when pressured by the puppet regime.
