Definition
The Election Commission of India (ECI) is an autonomous constitutional body established under Article 324 of the Constitution of India, responsible for administering free and fair elections to the Parliament, state legislatures, the offices of President and Vice-President, and bye-elections to parliamentary and state assembly seats.
It supervises the electoral process, enforces the Model Code of Conduct, registers political parties, and addresses complaints regarding electoral malpractices.
