Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington (1882–1944), an influential English astronomer, physicist, and mathematician, renowned for leading the 1919 solar eclipse expedition that confirmed Einstein's theory of general relativity and for his pioneering work in stellar structure and the physics of stars.
In astrophysics, relating to the Eddington limit (or Eddington luminosity), the theoretical maximum luminosity a celestial body (such as a star or black hole) can attain before outward radiation pressure overcomes the inward gravitational force, leading to instability.
