A country in southeastern South America, bordered by Argentina to the west, Brazil to the north and east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast; official name: Oriental Republic of Uruguay.
Known for its progressive social policies, world-class beaches, and as the birthplace of tango (shared with Argentina) and candombe music.
