traffic band
Definition
An English rock band formed in Birmingham in April 1967 by Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, Chris Wood, and Dave Mason, renowned for pioneering a fusion of progressive rock, psychedelic rock, jazz rock, and folk rock.
Active in phases from 1967–1969, 1970–1974, 1994, and 2004, Traffic produced seminal albums like 'Mr. Fantasy' (1967), 'The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys' (1971, platinum-certified), and hits including 'Paper Sun,' 'Hole in My Shoe,' and 'Feelin' Alright?' (famously covered by Joe Cocker).
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, the band's improvisational style and eclectic instrumentation, featuring flute, sitar, and Mellotron, left a lasting legacy in rock music.
