Steve McMichael (October 17, 1957 – April 2025), nicknamed 'Mongo' after the character from Blazing Saddles, was an American professional football defensive tackle who played 15 seasons in the NFL, primarily with the Chicago Bears (1981–1993).
A key member of the Bears' '46 Defense' and their Super Bowl XX championship team, he recorded 95 sacks and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2024 while battling ALS.
McMichael transitioned to professional wrestling in WCW during the 1990s, becoming a member of the iconic Four Horsemen stable.
He ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Romeoville, Illinois, as a Republican in 2013, and was posthumously diagnosed with CTE in 2026 following his death from ALS.
