RS-28 Sarmat
Definition
The RS-28 Sarmat (Russian: РС-28 Сармат) is a super-heavy, silo-based, liquid-fueled intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) developed by Russia to replace the R-36M2.
Capable of carrying up to 10 tonnes of payload, including multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs), hypersonic glide vehicles (HGVs) like Avangard, or fractional orbital bombardment systems (FOBS).
It has a range of 18,000 km (up to 35,000 km sub-orbitally) and entered operational service in September 2023, though plagued by test failures including catastrophic silo explosions in 2024 and 2025.
Nicknamed 'Satan II' by Western media due to its immense destructive potential.
