Rockstar Games data breach
Definition
A high-profile cybersecurity incident in September 2022, in which the hacking group Lapsus$ accessed Rockstar Games' internal systems, stealing and leaking approximately 90 videos of early Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay footage, source code for Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2, and other proprietary data.
A more recent third-party data breach confirmed by Rockstar Games in early 2026, where the hacking group ShinyHunters claimed to have stolen sensitive company data and demanded a ransom by April 14, 2026, threatening to release it publicly; Rockstar stated only a limited amount of non-material information was accessed.
