Raúl Modesto Castro Ruz (born June 3, 1931) is a Cuban revolutionary, military general, and politician who served as the 16th President of Cuba from 2008 to 2018 and as First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba from 2011 to 2021.
Younger brother of Fidel Castro, he played a key role in the Cuban Revolution and acted as a stabilizing force in the Cuban government for decades, officially stepping back from formal power in 2021 but remaining influential.
