Randall David Johnson (born September 10, 1963), nicknamed 'The Big Unit,' is a retired American professional baseball pitcher who played 22 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1988 to 2009, primarily with the Seattle Mariners, Houston Astros, Arizona Diamondbacks, and New York Yankees.
A five-time Cy Young Award winner (1995, 2000–2002, 2004), Johnson recorded 4,875 strikeouts (second all-time), won the 2001 World Series with the Diamondbacks, and is famously known for accidentally killing a bird with a pitch during a spring training game in 2001.
