Pat Tillman (1976–2004) was an American professional football player for the Arizona Cardinals who famously left his multimillion-dollar NFL contract after the 9/11 attacks to enlist in the U.S. Army Rangers.
He served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, becoming a symbol of patriotism and sacrifice, until his tragic death by friendly fire in 2004, later covered up by the military.
