Mexican Mother's Day (El Día de las Madres) is a fixed annual holiday celebrated on May 10 in Mexico and some other Latin American countries, such as El Salvador and Guatemala, to honor mothers.
It originated in 1922 when Mexican journalist Rafael Alducín, founder of the newspaper Excélsior, proposed dedicating a day to mothers, inspired partly by the month of May being consecrated to the Virgin of Guadalupe, a maternal figure in Mexican culture.
